Lhasa is the capital city of Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). The Capital is situated in a mountain-fringed valley on the north bank of the Kyichu River also called the Lhasa River in the central southern part of the region. At an elevation of 3,658m, (12,000 feet), the Lhasa city was nicknamed “Sunlight City”, is the highest city in the world. The city has many Buddhist monuments and was once the seat of the His Holiness Dalai Lama, so that flocks of pilgrims have been making their pilgrimage to the city for centuries.
